What is a Public Key? Where can I find it?

Modified on Wed, 21 Aug at 3:03 PM

Public Key, Public Address, Account ID: we use those terms interchangeably on StellarX.

The Stellar network relies on Public Key cryptography, which means every account has a Public Key and a Secret/ Private Key. As the name suggests, your Public Key is public. It’s always safe to share, and it’s how other people identify your account and verify that you authorized a transaction.

Stellar Public key is a 56-character string starting with a ‘G’. It is safe to share with anyone so that you can easily track your transactions via stellar.expert

Stellar Secret Key is a 56-character string starting with an uppercase 'S'. The secret key should be stored securely and never shared with anyone. Any person or application knowing your private keys may move your funds without your authorization. So make sure that you’re safely keeping it and no one can have access to it.

Your Public Key is also the destination where you’ll send funds when you deposit XLM into your StellarX wallet.

To find your public key, check the box to the left of the “Deposit” button, a drop-down menu will open, then click on the “box” under the “Manage” button.
