StellarX User Security
It is important that all StellarX users understand that StellarX is a graphical user interface that sits atop the Stellar blockchain, and that we hold none of your user account’s access credentials (account information, login, passwords, or passphrases) nor do we custody any of your assets.
This is a fundamental paradigm shift for users who are used to clicking “Forgot Password” or raising issues with customer support to regain access to their account if they forgot their login credentials. It’s important that every user understand that very little can be administered by StellarX the way it can be on centralized exchanges, other social platforms like Facebook or X, or ecommerce sites like Amazon or eBay.
Below, we will cover the two most important components of protecting your account because candidly: if you don’t protect your account and store your own credentials safely, no one else (including us!) can help you!
Password Security
The importance of holding onto your login, password, and passphrase credentials is paramount. On StellarX, you are the custodian! No one else (including us) has the ability to administer your account on your behalf.
What does this mean exactly? If you forgot your password and don’t know your 15 word recovery phrase, we are sorry to say there’s nothing we can do to help. For info on why that’s true, read up on StellarX security.
*Important* Please write down or store your 15 word pass-phrase and secret key offline in a place that cannot be hacked or accessed by the internet.
Custody
We don’t hold your assets. They live on-chain on the Stellar network, and you can access them at any time and through any Stellar client using your secret key.
We don’t have access to your secret key. It’s encrypted on our server, and is decrypted as needed using your password and authenticated user session.
We never put your secret key in local storage, in a cookie, or on disk unencrypted.
We provide you with a 15 word recovery code so that if you lose your primary authentication mechanism, you don’t permanently lose access to your Stellar wallet.
*Important* Please write down or store your 15 word pass-phrase and secret key offline in a place that cannot be hacked or accessed by the internet.
